| I was talking before how being a body implies 3 things we as Christians need to recognize. The first thing was that we are all connected. The second thing that being a body implies is that we all have a purpose. As a youth pastor, it is very easy to get immersed in my work and forget all those who make the church operate and run smoothly. Every person, whether they are a janitor or just a member have a purpose to serve. God has called us all to be on mission and share our faith with others. For some that may mean a vocation in the ministry for others (most christians) that calling is just to be faithful where they are at. I was blessed this Sunday as I was sitting in church and a member of our church got up to sing a special. He shared a wonderful testimony of how God showed him that His purpose for him was not what he had thought. My friend had gotten ahead of God and thought he would tell God what his schedule was. Hearing that testimony made me realize that there are times in my life when i need to be still and listen for God to tell me what my purpose is. When is the last time you stopped to listen? | | |
| Body is defined by Webster as the entire material or physical structure of an organism. Throughout the Bible, the church is defined and referred to as a body. This association is very significant as we look at our own lives as Christians. There are three very important things that one can conclude from this analogy. The first is that we are tied together. No matter what we do, how we do it or where we do it; that action affects the body. I was made very aware of this fact as I was at our weekly youth workers meeting at Coffee D'vine. One of the men I meet with mentioned that he ran into someone who knew me outside of Huntington. Well, I got a good report, but it just made me think. We never know who we will impact. 1 Peter 3:15b "...always be prepared to give a defense to anyone who asks you for the hope that is in you." | | |
